Sr. Systems Engineer (Power Electronics)

Job Description:
Group: EMG Clearance Level Needed: None Shift: Day ManTech is seeking a seasoned Power Systems Engineer to serve on an integrated government–contractor team as a technical advisor focused primarily on two areas: creating the world’s first kilovolt-scale integrated circuits, and developing transistor switches operating at grid-level voltages (exceeding 13 kilovolts). In this role, you will provide subject matter expertise in identifying barriers (technical, economic and/or regulatory) to grid integration; provide technical inputs and “thought leadership” in the development of future power generation/distribution concepts, strategies and program documentation that provide feasible, cost effective alternatives for new technology integration; and support emerging technology validation and integration planning activities. The successful candidate shall possess extensive experience working in or with the electric utility industry. Comprehensive knowledge of the following is critical:
Power Electronics – Transistors, Inductors, Transformers, and Capacitors Distribution/Energy Management Systems Grid Communications Infrastructure (SCADA) Semiconductor Materials and Systems Smart Grid General Responsibilities:
• Provide expert technical analysis of the state of the art in power systems and components. • Provide expert technical analysis of technology development cycles and trends. • Draft and develop technical evaluation criteria, funding opportunity announcements, technical evaluation reports and recommendations, and other documents relating to the evaluation and selection of proposals for Research Development and Demonstration (RD&D) projects involving advanced energy technologies. • Review and analyze technical data and information produced by RD&D projects. • Provide expert technical analysis of commercialization and technology transfer potential and opportunities for advanced energy technologies. Requirements:
A PhD degree in one of the following or similar fields of study: Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or Electrical Engineering. A MS degree with extensive relevant experience will be considered. Possess 8-10 years direct relevant experience in conducting advanced technical analysis/strategic studies to enhance the national electric power grid infrastructure (e.g. Smart Grid) a plus. Demonstrated experience in new energy technology integration environment. Authorized to work in the United States with no restrictions/Permanent US Resident. Other Skills Required: Ability to aggressively attack complex problems and identify feasible/optimum solutions. Contribute to the customer mission/goals beyond assigned tasks; implement innovative, thought leadership techniques to challenge the norm and achieve long-term vision results. Possess effective leadership skills and ability to operate in a dynamic, fast paced environment. The candidate may be expected to represent the program status to senior government officials, congressional stakeholders, academia and industry partners – strong oral/written communication and interpersonal skills a must.
Miscellaneous: Full time position; must be willing to work in downtown Washington DC, onsite with the government customer.
