Sr. Scientist (Energy Storage)

Job Description:
Group: EMG Clearance Level Needed: None Shift: Day ManTech is seeking an innovative Sr. Scientist to serve as a Subject Matter Expert in advanced energy storage technology research and development as part of an integrated government–contractor team. In this role, you will conduct comprehensive technical feasibility assessments, evaluate and make recommendations on the technological relevance and potential return on investment of proposed research projects, and monitor/evaluate funded R&D project progress and performance. This technical advisory role will support the government management team’s decision-making capabilities and facilitate the establishment/continuous evaluation of funding priorities throughout the R&D process across a broad project portfolio of cutting-edge clean energy technologies in various stages from basic research to commercialization. You will interface with R&D organizations including government labs, industry, and academia to identify transformational scientific concepts and unproven technologies that are high risk, high payoff investments to radically advance energy storage capabilities for vehicle, industrial and utility applications. The successful candidate shall possess demonstrated R&D and technical leadership expertise in a robust combination of advanced technologies associated with the following areas:
Energy Storage (including batteries) Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) and Electric Vehicles (EV) This position requires extensive experience in innovative, cutting-edge research applicable to the energy storage technology domain.
Requirements:
Must have a PhD degree in one of the following or related fields of study: Physics, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science. Experience does not replace the degree requirement. Possess 10-15 years direct relevant post-doctoral program experience to include a technical leadership role on related R&D projects; demonstrated experience encompassing basic research through technology transition strongly desired. Strong analytical capabilities and experience in conducting risk versus payoff assessments to guide funding priorities and project initiation or termination decisions in a complex R&D environment. Proven success in technical leadership roles in a multi-disciplinary, complex leading edge technology program environment. Authorized to work in the United States with no restrictions/Permanent US Resident. Other Skills Required: Ability to aggressively attack complex problems and identify feasible/optimum solutions. Contribute to the customer mission/goals beyond assigned tasks; implement innovative, thought leadership techniques to challenge the norm. Possess demonstrated effective leadership of diverse multi-disciplinary teams in a dynamic, fast paced environment. The candidate may be expected to effectively represent the program status to senior government officials, congressional stakeholders, academia and industry partners – strong oral/written communication and interpersonal skills a must.
Miscellaneous: Full time position; must be willing to work in downtown Washington DC, onsite with the government customer.
